Want to develop a visual language?
From speed sketching to technical drawing, your visual language is your way to communicate your ideas with others, as well as a tool to explore and develop your ideas from concept to finished design.
This programme is a tale of two halves. The speed sketching and perspective is the language you use at the beginning of a project, whilst the precise technical (orthographic), drawing is used at the other end when translating a design sketch into a format that can be used as a blueprint both to make as well as to manage materials and costs.
Trust the Process
Everyone can draw...with practice! You will never meet a toddler who hands back a crayon and says 'I can't draw'! As adults we just expect it to be something we can either do - or not - without practice or training. Nathalie loves reconnecting students with their expressive side, and getting them to discover abilities they didn't know they had...
INTRODUCING...
Drawing:
Develop Your Own Visual Language
WHAT'S ON THE COURSE?
Nathalie's comprehensive drawing course is designed to deconstruct each step of the drawing process. This ensures students develop an independence and confidence in both their sketching and technical drawing abilities.
- Develop confidence in your visual language
- Explore precision technical drawing techniques
- Learn how to sketch as fast as your ideas!

MODULE 1:
Introduction - Shape to Form
From flat to form, this module takes you through the fundamentals of sketching. From simple 3D, to shading, and - most importantly - understanding light, these are the building blocks for your sketching.

MODULE 2:
Understanding Perspective
Perspective is essential to sketching. If it's right you don't see it - if it's wrong, it's all you see! Deconstructing both linear and organic forms will give you the confidence to sketch effectively.

MODULE 3:
Gems on a Curve
An essential part of a jewellery designer's visual language is gemstones, and gems on a curve is key to that - from side stones to halos and accents.

MODULE 4:
Complex Shapes
This module starts to pull the elements of modules 1 - 3 together, incorporating perspective, volume and light.

MODULE 5:
Design Sketching
Design sketching is a different use of sketching skills. In this module you learn to draw with design and wearability in mind.

MODULE 6:
Technical Drawing - Introduction
The first step into technical drawing. In this module you cover the importance of the grid, how to use it and the additional uses of the grid in the design process.

MODULE 7:
Technical Drawing - Rings
Looking at rings specifically you will cover everything from solitaire's to cocktail rings and ring jackets.

MODULE 8:
Technical Drawing - Earrings, Pendants & Cuffs
This module looks at items that follow a similar grid pattern, from simple, pearl drop earrings to organic forms on a cuff.

MODULE 9:
Technical Drawing - Necklaces
Full necklaces vary in layout depending on the elements. This module covers both component based designs and full opera necklaces
